INTERNATIONALE JURY
The international jury consists of nine persons that are internationally known for their expertise in the field of design. Besides that the chairs of the selection committees are part of this international jury. Last year the international jury was under the chairmanship of Hedy D'Ancona.
HEDY D'ANCONA
NEDERLAND | Hedy d'Ancona was Staatssecretaris, Minister, Lid van de Eerste Kamer en van het Europese Parlement. Op dit moment is zij voorzitter van een aantal - vooral culturele - organisaties waaronder de Dutch Federation of Creative Industries, Via Milano en World Interiors Event 2013.
MIKKO KORIA
FINLAND | Within a career that spans over twenty-five years of professional management, practice and research in the private, public and the third sectors, Dr. Mikko Koria's key expertise is linked to the ability to successfully lead complex, multicultural and multidisciplinary organisation and initiatives, linking technical and social goals. After design & architecture studies at the Universidade de São Paulo, Brazil, Mikko Koria obtained a M.Sc. (Arch.) from the Helsinki University of Technology, Finland, a MBA (Design Mgmt.) from the University of Westminster, with subsequent D.Sc. (Econ.) work on complex project management in international settings done at the Helsinki School of Economics, Finland.
CARA MCCARTY
USA | A distinguished expert in the field of architecture, design and decorative arts, McCarty has served as a curator, lecturer and author for more than 25 years. Since 1992, McCarty was the curator and head of the department of decorative arts and design at the Saint Louis Art Museum, St. Louis, where she established the museum's 20th-and 21st-century design collection, while also strengthening holdings from the Renaissance to the present day; acquired more than 400 works for the collection; and organized major design exhibitions.
ROBERT WONG
USA | Robert was born Chinese, grew up Dutch, was Canadian, and is now American. While practicing accounting in Toronto, Robert woke up one day, flew to New York, and became a graphic designer instead. Since then, he has had the privilege of working on some of the world's most loved brands - Google, Starbucks, Apple, Harley-Davidson, Jack Daniel's, ESPN, MTV, NPR, and other acronyms.
Currently at the Creative Lab, Robert leads a small team of amazingly talented people within Google to help communicate to the world the magic of Google products and the spirit of the people who make them.
RUEDI BAUR
FRANCE | Ruedi Baur, designer, born in 1956 in Paris, spent his childhood in France, then trained as a graphic designer with Michael Baviera in Switzerland, obtaining his diploma in graphic design in 1979 at the Schule für Gestaltung in Zurich.
He has taught on a regular basis since 1987. From 1989 to 1996 he coordinated the design department at the École des beaux-arts in Lyon. In 1995 he was appointed a lecturer at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst in Leipzig, running its education board from 1997 to 2000.
RAVI NAIDOO
SOUTH-AFRICA | Ravi Naidoo is the founder and managing director of Interactive Africa, a Cape Town based media, marketing and project management company. Ravi holds a B.Sc. (Hons) and a MBA, from the University of Cape Town. Over the past fifteen years, Ravi has been at the helm of several high profile projects such as the First African in Space Project, the African Connection Rally and the South African Bid to host the 2010 Football World Cup (both in 2006 and 2010).
BETH GALI
SPAIN | Beth Galí has practiced leading edge architecture and design since the late 1960s. She holds numerous academic titles both at home and throughout Europe. She is currently the president of the FAD (The Arts and Design Chamber of Barcelona). Professional experience ranges from furniture and industrial design to public exhibitions, set design as well as significant architectural and public realm projects including new streets, squares and parks in Spain, (Barcelona, Zafra, Terrassa), Ireland (Dublin and Cork), the Netherlands and Germany.
CHRISTOPH ZELLWEGER
SWITZERLAND | Trained goldsmith / precious metal mechanic / model-maker for luxury goods and production. Practical design skills picked up in the trade; conceptual and contextual thinking as student at Royal College of Art in London. Residences at European Ceramic Work Centre in Holland, haute-couture textile at Jakob Schlaepfer in Switzerland. Researcher/ designer for technology-led venture company Scintillate in London. Now object-based designer/ artist/ crafts-maker working cross-disciplinary from one-off objects and small-scale production to space-related installations.
PAUL STAMPER
FRANCE | Bridging the worlds of commerce and education Paul Stamper has over twenty years' experience as a designer, art director and project manager. Trained at the Royal College of Art Paul has followed his varied passions around the world. Working first in England, Turkey, the Philippines and the U.S. he has spent the last 11 years at Renault Design outside of Paris, France. Drawing on his diverse past experiences, Paul currently develops programs and initiatives to nurture creativity and support innovation within the Renault Design Department.
SHUDIR SHARMA
INDIA | A very well known and active name in the world of design, creativity and Innovation, Sudhir Sharma is the Chief Creative of INDI Design. Based in Pune, India, INDI is an international Brand, Design & Innovation consultancy with its project footprints in all regions of India. Additionally, INDI has become increasingly involved in management consulting, organizational design, design of products, services, environments, and digital experiences.
HANS VAN DER MARKT
NEDERLAND | Hans van der Markt is ontwerper en adviseur openbare ruimte en culturele planologie. Hij is ontwerpdocent bij de afdeling Public Space op de Design Academy Eindhoven. Hij is lid van de Commissie Ruimtelijke Kwaliteit van de gemeente Eindhoven. Hij publiceerde in de tijdschriften de Architect, Bouw en Items over stadsinrichting en design en was onder andere redacteur van de publicaties Visies en verhalen.
ANTOINE ACHTEN
NEDERLAND | Antoine Achten is sinds mei 2009 werkzaam als manager bij Cultuur-Ondernemen, vestiging Rotterdam. Daarvoor was hij onder meer adviseur visuele communicatie bij TNT Post. In 1998 richtte hij Tubelight op, een recensieblad voor beeldende kunst. Daarnaast is hij onder andere lid van de Raad van Advies van de Master of International Communication Management van de Haagse Hogeschool en bekleedt hij diverse adviesfuncties in de culturele sector.
TIMO DE RIJK
NEDERLAND | Timo de Rijk (TdR) is universitair hoofddocent/associate professor aan de Faculteit Industrieel Ontwerpen van de TU Delft en bijzonder hoogleraar Design Cultures aan de Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam. Hij is hoofdredacteur van Morf en publiceerde onder andere Norm=Vorm. Verder was hij, samen met Aad Krol, samensteller van het Jaarboek Nederlandse vormgeving 03/04 en 05.
