Shore power cabinets Drechtsteden

The project

This new generation of shore-side electricity installations is easy to use and, thanks to GPRS connections and smart meters, it includes a sophisti- cated registration and payment system. For residents both on the shore and on the ships themselves, the use of shore-side electricity means not only cleaner air but also less noise from running generators.

Committee

Recognisable power tapping points for skippers of inland barges at the many inner-city quays in the Drechtsteden region. As the river is the connecting element, the application goes beyond town boundaries. The sturdy cabinets seem to feel at home on the quay.

— These striking objects embody the region’s environmental ambition (RdjK, Dutch Design Yearbook, 2011).
