This prototype of an ambulance drone was developed during his graduation by Alec Momont (faculty of Industrial Design TU Delft) in cooperation with the innovation platform Living Tomorrow. In cases of emergencies like a coronary attack, the autonomously navigating drone can deliver a defibrillator in no time; through a video and voice connection, the people on location receive feedback and instructions. The application determines the location of a victim based on the telephone signal of the caller, and finds its way thanks to GPS. The drone achieves speeds of around hundred km/h, weighs four kilogrammes and can carry loads of up to four kilogrammes.
The designer developed a complete system that offers more than just the product. Through integrating an app in the design, a service is created that can help people quickly and on location. The committee remarks that this service is still in the prototype phase and (especially considering legislation and regulations) has a long way to go. It is the intention of the project that is most appreciated. The committee expects great applicability in other sectors.
