Portfolio

The project

Nature and science are central themes in the work of Teresa van Dongen. The designer who graduated with distinction from the Design Academy Eindhoven in 2014 wants to build a bridge between nature and science and design. These disciplines also come together in her projects. Her ‘living lamp’ Ambio was nominated for many prizes; she is currently involved in the development of a lamp that utilizes bioluminescence.

Committee

Science, technology and materials: Teresa van Dongen is able to unite various perspectives and disciplines. Her research is transformed into aesthetic products with a tangible purpose. She does not get caught up in ideas, she seeks out cooperation (with for example Delft University of Technology and the National Glass Museum) and poses relevant questions regarding energy consumption. Her portfolio clearly showcases all the criteria for the Young Designer Award (impact, aesthetics, production methods, innovation and cooperation).

Jury

Teresa van Dongen’s work not only draws together different disciplines (science, technology, materials use), but different perspectives, too. Van Dongen translates research into aesthetic products which serve a concrete purpose and often address topical issues such as energy consumption. Although van Dongen’s portfolio may as yet be modest, it holds great potential. All the criteria for the Young Designer Award (impact, aesthetics, production method, innovation and collaboration) are clearly evident in her work. The jury looks forward to following her future career with great interest, and is delighted to present her with the Young Designer Award in appreciation of her talent.
