Black Pearl wins Public Award DDA11
30-10-2011. The Dutch public has chosen Black Pearl by Studio Rolf.fr in cooperation with Zecc Architecten (Rolf, Marnix van der Meer en Yffi van den Berg) as the winner of the Public Award for the Dutch Design Awards 2011 (DDA). Hans Robertus, director Dutch Design Week, presented the Award to the elated winners in the Brainport Greenhouse. Runners up were Voetgangersbrug (pedestrian bridge) Fort de Roovere in Halsteren by RO&AD architecten and Pete Philly, the Open Loops website, by Momkai. Votes for the designs have been casted via facebook, mail and in the exposition during Dutch Design Week. Previous winners are, amongst others: Revalidatie-centrum Groot Klimmendaal (2010) by Architecten-bureau Koen van Velsen, The Flying Grass Carpet (2009) by Hunk-Design & Id-Eddy and Bloomframe Balkon (2008) by Hofman Dujardin Architecten. MONEY & SPEED best NL design
22-10-2011. During the spectacular Award Show in Muziekgebouw Eindhoven, twelve Dutch Design Awards (DDA) were granted. The awards were presented in the main categories of Product, Communications and Spatial; also a number of special prizes were awarded, among which the MINI Young Designer Award (incentive prize young talent), the Best Client Award and the BNO - Piet Zwart Lifetime Achievement Award from the DDA. The international jury awarded The Golden Eye - the prize for the best Dutch design in 2011 – to the iPad documentary Money & Speed: Inside the Black Box’ of VPRO Tegenlicht by Catalogtree (Daniel Gross and Joris Maltha). From a field of more than 680 participants and 45 finalists, the work Money & Speed was ‘the best of the best’. Besides the honour, Catalogtree wins €20,000 in prize money. The international jury said the following about the winning work: "Money & Speed has the capacity to inspire a wide audience to change. It shows that design can actually contribute to a better world: an eye-opener." Read more

Car brand encourages young design talent
16-10-2011. An incentive award for young design talent deserves a refreshing, extroverted and spontaneous partner. For this purpose, the organisation of Dutch Design Awards has entered into collaboration with car brand MINI, which has committed itself to the MINI Young Designer Award for the duration of three years. The award will be presented on Saturday, October 22 by Jan-Christiaan Koenders, Managing Director BMW Group Netherlands, during the Award Show of the Dutch Design Awards in Muziekgebouw Eindhoven. The work of all finalists and winners will subsequently be displayed in an exhibition in the Brainport Greenhouse during Dutch Design Week (October 22 through October 30). Read more

Dutch Design a great success in Istanbul

The combined work of Dutch designers, in both DDA exposition as well as the ‘Made in Brainport' expo, draw far more than average attention of the professionals, (international) press, the broader audience and students. The tickets for this extraordinary celebration for design-loving Netherlands are sold through the website of Muziekgebouw Eindhoven. During the show, the winners of ten awards in the main categories of Communication, Spatial, and Product will be announced. The international jury of the DDA has selected these winners as well as the winner of the coveted Golden Eye - the prize for the best design, worth € 20,000. Among the special prizes awarded are the Best Client Award, the BNO - Piet Zwart Prize Life Time Achievement Award, and the Young Designer Award (young talent incentive award worth € 10,000). The book presentation of the first copy of the Yearbook Dutch Design 2011 will also take place during the show. The show is directed by Cultuur-Ondernemen in collaboration with Praaning & Roekens and is presented by Hadassah de Boer. The Award Show starts at 20:15 pm in Muziekgebouw Eindhoven; the price of a ticket is € 30. Read more
