Paul Faassen

Horizonvervuiling

The project

For his second book Horizonvervuiling (Horizon Pollution), Faassen has used new and previously-published illustrations to tell the story of a walk. The illustrations should be considered as a single panoramic drawing, according to Faassen. Faassen makes use of a collage technique whereby he blends different styles of drawing and photo graphy with texts he has written himself. They are image columns in which he provides a commentary on social phenomena, from peeing in swimming pools to the happiness industry.

Committee

In his book Horizonvervuiling, illustrator Paul Faassen takes his readers for a walk along a number of social phenomena. The illustrations are meant to be a single panoramic drawing, but the book form creates surprising effects. The book is a collage of different drawing styles, photography and self-written texts.
