Ted Noten

Haunted by 36 women

The project

Thirty-six rings for an equivalent number of female types leaves little doubt about the clichés, archetypes and dreams to which Noten gives a clear field. The concept of creating rings for particular women, and what’s more, producing them in bigger or smaller versions is typical of the contrariness with which Ted Noten has long approached art and the design disciplines. Despite his autonomous approach, Noten employs a markedly industrial methodology, such as few jewellery artists do.

Committee

Like a jewellery cabaret artist, Ted Noten makes a statement against unbridled capitalism, hedonism, and the ostentatious design of luxury products. Using an industrial manufacturing method, he developed 36 jewels in steel, nylon, titanium, and gold: 36 rings for as many types of women.
