Funenpark

The project

For the surface of the grounds for a new residential district that has the character of a park, two pentagonal paving stones were designed that would fit together as an irregular jigsaw puzzle. This has allowed an informal network paths to be designed between the scattered residential blocks. The format and weight of the flagstones makes joining their sides unnecessary, and a gradual transition to the green areas can be made. The flagstones are executed in three shades of grey and are laid together randomly. Drainage takes place via the joints using an aqua flow system that buffers the water in the foundations, allowing it to drain off slowly.

Committee

At first sight the design appears to be composed of dull, grey paving-stones, but appearances can be deceptive; it actually consists of just two different types of paving-stone, both based on a very well thought-out and intelligent shape, allowing for a countless number of patterns. It is an exceptionally clever design, thought up by a designer in a field where all the possibilities seemed to have been exhausted.
