Church Of Living
Zecc has transformed a chapel in Utrecht into a heavenly dream apartment. A sculptural element unifies the chapel residence and strengthens its spatial character. Diffuse light enters the space through new roof lights, and a large window enables the connection with the city. The entirely white space derives its colours from the religious light falling through the stained glass windows.
This church has been converted into a spacious dwelling through relatively modest interventions, which respectfully introduce the church’s former function into the new one: living. A few well-chosen interventions have transformed the former church into a pleasant, comfortable dwelling. A meritorious example of a change of function, transformation, and reuse.
