Elisa Van Joolen

Invert Footwear

The project

By turning deadstock of shoe manufacturers like Nike, Converse and Clarks inside out, Elisa van Joolen transforms them into unique sneakers.

Van Joolen gives a new meaning to re-use. With this collection, she challenges international shoe brands, showing them that re-use can go hand in hand with a beautiful product. It is not often that a good story with a sustainable message is converted into an interesting end result.

— The personal ‘signature’ of the generally Asian maker is now exposed in the clearly visible stitching of what initially appeared to be a virtually uniform brand shoe - Chris Reinewald, Dutch Design Jaarboek, 2013
