Circuform gives industrially designed furniture a circular life and has re-released Ineke Hans’s design from 2011. The result is REX: a sustainable and completely recyclable chair that can be returned for a guaranteed deposit of twenty euros. This further development of the very first Dutch deposit chair encourages a different way of consuming; not throwing away after (re)use, but returning it. The returned chairs are checked, cleaned, repaired and sold again. Broken chairs are shredded into raw material for new production. REX has already been acquired by various museums, including the Vitra Design Museum, Museum Boijmans Rotterdam and the Design Museum Gent.

Furniture for the business market – from offices to events and institutes like hospitals or schools – is used intensively and is seldom cherished. Circuform reintroduces the chair Ineke Hans designed in 2011, making it the Netherlands’ very first chair with a deposit. REX 2.0 does away with the concept of furniture as disposable items. A process and message with which they inspire the market to take every phase seriously: from production process, production method and lifespan, right up to the ‘last mile’: what do we do after use, when a piece of furniture is usually discarded?
