2019 Young Designer winner, Simone Post, has designed an acoustic wall piece for graphic design studio Thonik’s striking new building in the city center of Amsterdam.

The studio asked Simone Post to inject a splash of colour into the dazzling black and white building, so she created the vibrant wall piece out of 5 colour variations of the same print design. All of the designs have been carefully waxprinted by Dutch textile manufacturer Vlisco. Recycled textiles make up the acoustic insulation.

Thonik’s new studio on the Wibautstraat in Amsterdam is a multifunctional space that has been developed in continuous co-creation with the neighbourhood since 2009. The building can function both as a living- and working space and the bottom floor will eventually house an all-day dining and drinking hub.

Thomas Widdershoven, one of the studio’s two founders, designed the building together with MMX architecten. The print on the outside of the building reflects the studio’s bold, simple, and fun character. Simone’s organic prints are not the first thing you would expect to see inside, but that only makes the combination better.
