De Almeerse Wolunie

The project

System for the local processing of wool from a flock of sheep in Kromhoutpark Almere, developed by the Overtreders W. The wool factory started in 2014; the Almeerse Wolunie is now an association with 200 members. Residents of Almere can become members for € 50 a year and, in exchange for this, they may attend four workshops. During these workshops, they process the wool to become a design product created by young Dutch designers. Each member makes two of each product during the workshops: one to keep for themselves, one to be sold.

Committee

A relevant initiative that enriches the city of Almere through involving the local community. New life is also breathed into an old craft. The committee especially appreciates the educative component of this project, which provides insight into the journey from raw sheep’s wool to the final product. The objects are made very carefully; thanks to the involvement of a designer, the final result is of a high quality.
