Every year, Dutch Design Awards (DDA) celebrates the best of Dutch design. This year during Dutch Design Week (DDW), we will announce a new DDA winner on DDW TV every afternoon for eight days. We start off with the category Young Designer! Who has received the Keep an Eye Foundation Young Designer Grant of 12,000 euros? And the winner is Audrey Large!

Audrey Large

Audrey Large researches digital cinema and image theory and uses her findings to design material objects. She plays with the boundaries between the digital and the physical, using techniques from the worlds of animation and 3D software to create new images. She sees digital images as raw materials; filming techniques and image manipulation are her tools. In her designs, Audrey Large never focuses on a specific method, but rather on intuitive associations between various techniques, disciplines, functions and perceptions. She searches for a new kind of balance between form and function and uses colour to create tactile illusions that have an alienating effect.

— ‘Realistic, but the other way round: Audrey Large magnifies the artificial to such an extent that it makes you doubt what is real and what is fake.’

Expert jury

Audrey Large convinces by materialising a new reality. The physical appearance and the digital form are indistinguishable in her work, which evokes confusion and amazement. Realistic, but the other way round: Audrey Large magnifies the artificial to such an extent that it makes you doubt what is real and what is fake. She makes perfect use of all the tools available to her and, as an entrepreneur, knows how to present her work and join forces. As a designer, Audrey Large is already very original and complete, which is quite something in the design field. This is moreish.
