Stani Michiels

Architectuur Vijfje

The project

Artist and architect Stani Michiels managed to compose the portrait of the queen on one side using the names of over a hundred Dutch architects. Michiels determined the location based on the number of results generated for a name entered in the search engine Google. On the other side of the coin, the spines of around thirty books about Dutch architects form the contours of the Netherlands: some architects value their books almost as much as their buildings.

Committee

The Architecture Fiver designed by Stani Michiels by means of free software symbolises the reputation of Dutch architecture and provides compensation for the loss of the national currency. On the obverse side, the portrait of the Queen’s face is formed by the names of Dutch architects. The reverse side shows the contours of the Netherlands, composed of the backs of thirty books by Dutch architects.
