Foundland

Failed Futures and Extended Borders

The project

Following his escape from Syria, Yassin Elsrakbi, father of one of the Foundland founders, continued to closely follow the developments in his home land. This was the basis for the video installation that Foundland made as its entry for the Prix de Rome. Based on various future scenarios, Failed Futures and Extended Borders invites discussion about complex political topics and processes. The project is also a plea to consume the news that we are served up by our media more critically.

Committee

This installation project is a new type of protest campaigning. Foundland sketches a complex problem poetically and makes a valiant effort to effect change. Failed Futures and Extended Borders presents, in an original manner, developments within journalism, and shows how design is gaining an increasingly important role.
